Light, colour and water: KEUCO in the striking Colorium building on the Düsseldorf harbour
The “Colorium” building created in 2001 by the British architect, William Allen Alsop, „Colorium“ is not just a landmark of the Düsseldorf Media Harbour, the new hot district of the regional capital, because of its particular shape. With its façade consisting of over 2,200 colour-printed glass panels and its prominent red technical floor, the skyscraper in the old city harbour is a striking landmark for miles around. In the design of the coloured surfaces, fully coloured areas intermingle with differentiated patterns of up to four tints. Despite the varied shades of its exterior, the “Colorium” is transparent on the inside, offering an atmosphere that is flooded with light.
The four-star superior hotel “Innside Düsseldorf Hafen” takes up floors 5 to 14 of the Colorium and offers in total 134 rooms and suites furnished in a contemporary style, conference rooms, a restaurant, a sauna and gym area and “The View” Skylounge and Bar on the 16th floor, which not only spoils guests with its culinary offerings, but also offers an impressive panoramic view of the regional capital – from the harbour to the old town. On the floors of the Colorium not occupied by the hotel there is an engineer’s office and the Düsseldorf campus of a media academy.
When furnishing the hotel bathrooms, the interior designers placed great value on modern designs with restrained elegance, deciding to use fittings and accessories by KEUCO. On basins and in showers, these underline the aesthetic atmosphere of the rooms and offer the guests maximum comfort. This is also aided by various KEUCO accessories such as cosmetic mirrors, hair dryers, towel holders and sponge baskets in the corners of the shower. The suites are also equipped with light mirrors. The most spectacular thing about the rooms, however, is the view through the colour-coated safety glass of the façade to the Gehry buildings, the Schlossturm and the Rhine.
